Yue Wu: Effect of Fiberline on Chemical Transformation of Wood Extractives-Reaction Mechanisms and Removal

If we want to utilize wood extractives, we need to know how they can be reacted and removed in the fiberline and where they can be separated (in the form having their maximum commercial value) before they can be chemically spoiled (or reacted) in the fiberline. In this study, reaction mechanisms will be carried out by mimicking real-mill conditions and the formation ones will be studied. Removal will also be tailored based on the secondary form’s solubility and reactivity. This study is to build up knowledges of the secondary reactions (such as chlorination, oxidation or degradation) between the wood extractives and cooking/ bleaching chemicals and to develop removal methods via techniques like precipitation, extraction, or reaction-based degradation.
