CIMANET

Circular Materials Bioeconomy Network

Advancing sustainable growth through the circular materials bioeconomy

CIMA

Why CIMANET

  • We address urgent global challenges – climate change, resource sufficiency, and access to clean water – by renewing the bio-based industry with science-based innovations.
  • We strengthen the talent pipeline in Finland, boosting the number of doctorates in the circular materials bioeconomy and educating future experts and leaders for industry, society, and academia.
  • Our work supports EU goals to reduce fossil dependency and reach climate neutrality by 2050 (EU Bioeconomy Strategy, European Green Deal, Circular Economy Action Plan) and aligns well with the Finnish Bioeconomy Strategy (2021). With the forest industry contributing 18-20% of Finland’s goods exports, advancing bio-based materials is central to national competitiveness and societal wellbeing.

Impact

  • CIMANET drives resilient, low-carbon growth by advancing sustainable processes and long-lasting bio-based materials—from large-volume applications like packaging, construction, and textiles to high-value areas such as water purification, biomedicine, and photonics.
  • We deliver the science, technology, and business models needed to power a circular, competitive, and climate-neutral bioeconomy.
  • We educate the next generation of leaders who translate breakthrough research into real-world solutions.
