Mycelium has gained attention as a sustainable building material. Organic materials like the fruiting body of Fomes fomentarius exhibit exceptional mechanical performance thanks to their oriented structures. This has inspired scientists to develop lightweight materials with high strength.
The main objectives of my research include:
- Develop mycelium-based materials employing fabrication techniques such as spinning and 3D printing.
- Incorporate stimulants that induce directional growth in mycelium.
- Explore potential biomedical applications.
