We kicked off the CIMACHEM course at JYU Summer School with a week-long deep dive into circular materials chemistry—connecting participants, exploring bio-based resources, and advancing toward next‑generation materials.
Course highlights:
- Foundations to frontiers: From plant-based resources and lignocellulose chemistry to advanced materials.
- Analytics in focus: NMR with Elina Sievänen and FTIR with Kaisa Helttunen.
- Pathways in chemistry: Biosynthesis processes with Petri Pihko.
- Community and collaboration: Interactive sessions, poster-style discussions, and plenty of shared moments that made learning engaging and fun.
Learning outcomes:
- Mastery of complex organic reaction mechanisms relevant to biomass conversion.
- Deeper understanding of hemicellulose, lignin, and cellulose chemistry.
- Practical skills in analytical methods for studying biomass reactions.
Our doctoral students leave equipped with new tools and perspectives to drive innovation and sustainability in their research.
